Senior School Update

News & Events 28/07/2023
Janine McSporran

Dear Families,

It has been pleasing to welcome our Senior School students back to school for Term 3.

For our year 12 students, Term 3 is particularly significant as it will be their last full term attending classes.  We know this will bring with it some mixed emotions. As the due dates reach closer and subjects come to a finish, we remind all of our families of the support that the Senior School team is able to provide you and your young person to navigate these challenges. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Welcome Assemblies

To commence the term, all year levels held a Welcome Assembly during which reminders regarding the following were shared:

  • Mobile Phone and Personal Devices Policy
  • Wellbeing Referral Update of Categories - So that we are better able to support young people, more specific categories have been added to the referral process.
  • Canteen –In keeping with the statewide ban on mobile phones in South Australian government schools’ young people are not able to access the cards on their phones to purchase goods in the canteen.
  • Use of Bags – All of our young people have access to a locker and the expectation is that bags are kept in lockers for the duration of the school day. Young people who need support with locks were reminded to work with their Home Group teacher to resolve this issue.
  • Uniform - Given we are in the colder months; young people were reminded of the need to ensure that they are adhering to the policy and wearing BSS uniform items only to stay warm.

Research Project

Support with Stage 2 Research Project, a compulsory subject in the SACE, is available after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3.30pm in the Senior Study Centre.

Compulsory Subjects

For Year 11 students English, Math and the Research Project are the compulsory subjects which students must achieve a C – or higher grade.  For all subjects, our young people need to be completing the summative tasks and ensuring that they are meeting the performance standards for their subjects. This will ensure that they achieve the maximum number of SACE credits and are best placed to select Year 12 subjects for 2024.

Term 4

Please note that this year we have scheduled introductory Year 12 workshops after the Year 11 exam period.  We encourage you to be mindful of these dates and arrangements when planning holidays etc. These sessions are designed to provide young people with a deep understanding of course content and assessment requirements. Prior reading and work for some subjects will be provided. As a school we believe this will position our young people well to start their studies in 2024 successfully.

We look forward to working in partnership with you to support your young person during Term 3.
