Wellbeing
At Brighton Secondary School, we foster an environment of belonging and connectedness that supports student wellbeing.
Our community understands that students learn more when they are healthy, safe and happy, and we are committed to creating environments and structures that support this.
Team around the learner approach
Home group teachers develop positive relationships with students and families to be the first point of contact for any concerns.
Year Level Leaders work collaboratively with home group teachers to build trusting and supportive homegroup environments and shape positive learning communities.
Our Wellbeing Team of Wellbeing for Learning Leaders, Youth Workers and our Clinical Psychologist work collaboratively to design and deliver proactive evidence-informed programs to build positive emotional and social behaviours to support engagement and learning.
Aboriginal Education and Inclusive Education teams collaborate with the Wellbeing Team and Year Level Leaders to support the social-emotional and learning needs of all students.
Accessing wellbeing support
If a student needs additional support to manage their wellbeing, we encourage them to access the Wellbeing Hub on the BSS Portal. The Hub provides access to a range of high quality resources about specific concerns we often support students with and encourages them to develop their own help-seeking skills.
If a student needs further support after accessing this information, they can make a Wellbeing Support Request through the Wellbeing Hub, and a member of the Wellbeing Team will follow up with them as soon as possible.
Home Group Program
Our home group program is deliberately designed to support the delivery of the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum and is enhanced by other targeted wellbeing and engagement activities and projects. You can read more about home group here.
