Home Group Program

Purpose

Our home group program provides a valuable time for students to connect with each other and their teacher. As an important adult for these students, this teacher supports the delivery of the KS:CPC, subject counselling information, career and pathway conversations and encourages students to engage with extra-curricular opportunities. Home group is also a time to develop our house culture by engaging in inter-house and year level activities and competitions.

Structure

Each year level has 12 home groups, made up of two home groups from each house.

Each home group has a designated teacher, who is the key contact for students and their families throughout their schooling. The teacher builds positive relationships with students and their families, and supports attendance, wellbeing, pathways and achievement. They are a key source of information about extra-curricular opportunities available within the school and community and can support students to access appropriate support from within the school.

Program

The home group program consists of two 30 minute lessons (Monday and Friday at 10.30am) and one 50 minute lesson (Wednesday at 10.10am) a week.

Home group lessons focus mainly on the mandatory Keeping Safe: Child Protection (KS:CPC) program taught in all government schools in SA. This content is delivered through a range of activities including the online learning platform Wellio, presentations and sessions led by guest speakers or key staff within the school, and other lessons delivered by teachers in line with KS:CPC concepts.

Other important topics covered in the home group program are dependent on the year level and may include transition, study skills, goal setting, subject and pathway selection and career exploration, as well as celebrating key days of significance.

Home Group Program Scope and Sequence

Our house culture is also a central part of our home group program, with inter-house competitions and house assemblies to recognise and celebrate student success a regular part of each terms program.

There are also a range of opportunities for students to contribute their perspectives on our school’s culture, through surveys and student forums that are held during these lessons.
