Senior School Update

News & Events 3/05/2024

Welcome to Term 2, Week 1. This term there are a number of Senior School events to mark in your calendar.

Year 11 Semester 1 Exams

Year 11 Semester 1 exams will be held in Week 8 of Term 2, from Monday 17 June to Friday 21 June.

The exams provide young people with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the protocols regarding exams.

Our young people will also be supported to develop their own techniques for both preparing for and completing exams.

Key information:

Dates: Monday 17 June until Friday 21 June, a timetable will be emailed to students and families early this term.

Location: Locations for each exam will appear on the timetable, generally the venue will be the library.

Year 11 lessons will run as normal for the week. We are running exams for subjects which have an exam at Year 12. There are a range of subjects which do not include an exam for this reason, therefore lessons will run as normal.

Prior to the exams, Year 11 students will attend an exam assembly where they will be provided with key information regarding the week.

Danni O’Connor, School Psychologist, will provide guidance regarding evidence-based exam techniques. These will form part of the Home Group Program for Term 2.

Attendance at the exams is crucial. We seek your support in ensuring that your young person attends and makes the most of this learning opportunity.

Thrive Week – Term 2 Week 10 – Thursday 4 July and Friday 5 July

Thrive Week in the Senior School will be held in Week 10 of Term 2 on Thursday 4 July and Friday 5 July.

The goal of Thrive Week is for our students to create their own Career Action Plan. This plan will be used to inform and support discussions during the Term 3 Subject Selection Process.

On these two days we will not be running normal lessons, instead we have organised for a range of Tertiary Institutions and training providers to present and work with our young people.

The program is currently being finalised, and it is worth noting that information from our young people in the Senior school in regard to their career interests, has determined what will be offered.

An overview: Year 10 and 11

Over the two days students will engage in the following:

Career Expo – in the Study Centre

Information Sessions – 5 to be held including ‘Thriving at University,’ ‘Thriving in Apprenticeships’ and ‘Thriving in VET’.

Industry Panels – 5 to be held including ‘Superstars of STEM’, Trade Panel, Health Panel etc

Interactive Workshops – at least 17 possibly more, including Creative Industries, Early Childhood and Care, Aquachallenge  etc.

An overview: Year 12

Thursday 4 July – Year 12 students will be offsite engaging in a ‘retreat day’.

Friday 5 July the SATAC presentation will be held. Year 12 students will also have the opportunity to engage in the Career Expo, attend Information Sessions and Interactive Workshops.

You will receive further information shortly regarding the program and detailed information about each session and what is being offered.  This will also include information regarding how your young person can register for the sessions that they wish to attend.

The Senior School is very excited to be able to offer these amazing opportunities to our young people.

Please note that we will not be able to offer these opportunities on other days during the school year. We therefore seek your support in ensuring that your young person attends and makes the most of these wonderful learning opportunities.

Warm regards,

Janine McSporran
