Senior School Update

News & Events 6/03/2024

The beginning of the 2024 school year has commenced with all students in the Senior School participating in a range of activities to ensure that they start the year focused on their learning.

At our Welcome Assemblies, whilst each cohort heard information that was specific to their current year, all young people in the Senior School were reminded of their SACE journey.

At Brighton Secondary School our key focus is having all our Senior School Students achieve their SACE.

We see this process as being a partnership with young people, the school community, and our families.

The following was emphasised:

  • Passing subjects and getting into study habits in Year 10 and Year 11 will set students up for success at Year 12.
  • There are support systems in place to help you to study.
  • Utilise your teachers as much as possible, their feedback can improve your work considerably.
  • The SACE has integrity and rigor, there will be hard times.
  • Attending lessons and meeting the learning requirements are keys to being successful in the SACE.
  • Students who do not complete the compulsory requirements in Year 11 can be expected to work back after the exams to set themselves up for Year 12

We look forward to supporting you and your young person as we work together to reach the goal of achieving their SACE and planning their pathway.

Earlier in the term a Senior School Information night was held for our families, some of the key content covered is included below:

Senior School Study Centre

We are very fortunate to have the Senior School Study Centre for our Year 11 and Year 12 students to use during their study lines.

This year the stage area is a quiet space for our Year 12 students only to study.

In addition to the stage we have 2 study rooms which are available for our Year 12 students to book during study lessons.

The spaces are designed for those students who wish to:

  • Participate in an Open Access lesson.
  • Record their work.
  • Work collaboratively with a group to complete a task.

Availability of the Study Centre

A reminder that you can access the Study Centre at the following times:

Before School from 8:30am – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday – please note the space is not available on Wednesday mornings.

After School until 4:30pm – Monday – Thursday – the area is closed Friday afternoons.

Our young people are encouraged to access this area to complete homework, and to work with peers and teachers.

Year 12 Formal

Preparations are well underway for our 2024 Formal to be held on Friday 15 March 2024.

This year the venue is the Stamford Grand Hotel, Mosley Square, Glenelg.

We look forward to celebrating this significant event with our Class of 2024.

Friday 15 March – 12:50pm dismissal for Year 12 students only

As per last year, on Friday 15 March, Year 12 lessons will conclude at 12:50pm and Year 12 lessons after lunch will be cancelled.

This will provide the time required to prepare for the formal, which we acknowledge is a significant event for Year 12 students and begins at 6.00pm.

Please note that only the lessons after lunch will be cancelled and all lessons up until lunch will run as normal.

We have indicated to young people that our expectation is that they will attend all of their classes in the week of the formal prior to 12:50pm on Friday.

Students who wish to stay at school after lunch are welcome to study in the Senior Study Centre.
