Middle School Update

News & Events 28/07/2023
Casey Freeman

It has been great to welcome all of our middle school students back to school after the mid-year break. Term 3 is another busy term as students continue their learning in both their continuing and new subjects and start to look forward to next year through the subject selection process.

Welcome Back Assemblies

Each of our middle school year levels held a Welcome Back Assembly during week 1. Key staff for each year level shared the following information with the students:

  • Mobile Phone and Personal Devices Policy
  • Wellbeing Referral Update of Categories - So that we are better able to support young people, more specific categories have been added to the referral process.
  • Canteen –In keeping with the statewide ban on mobile phones in South Australian government schools’ young people are not able to access the cards on their phones to purchase goods in the canteen.
  • Use of Bags – All of our young people have access to a locker and the expectation is that bags are kept in lockers for the duration of the school day. Young people who need support with locks were reminded to work with their Home Group teacher to resolve this issue.
  • Uniform - Given we are in the colder months; young people were reminded of the need to ensure that they are adhering to the policy and wearing BSS uniform items only to stay warm.

House Assemblies will be held in Week 2 where we will celebrate student academic and extra-curricular achievements from Term 2.

2023 NAPLAN Results

The individual student results for the 2023 NAPLAN tests have arrived and are currently being packaged ready to be distributed to families.

The test results and a ‘Information for Parents and Careers’ document will be given to Year 7 and Year 9 students in home group over the coming days. If you have any questions about your child’s NAPLAN results please contact the relevant Year Level Leader.

Subject Selection for 2024

Throughout the first half of this term, our middle school students will begin to investigate the subject offerings for 2024. Home Group teachers will provide students with information on the relevant course requirements for their year level and what choice subjects are available for them to choose.

Further information will be provided to parents on the subject selection process so that they can assist their child in the selection of their preferences for next year.
