The 2025 school year has commenced with enthusiasm, as all Senior School students have engaged in activities designed to set them up for success in their learning.
During our Welcome Assemblies, each cohort received year-specific information while also being reminded of their SACE journey.
At Brighton Secondary School, our priority is for all Senior School students to successfully achieve their SACE. We view this journey as a partnership between students, families, and the school community. Key messages emphasised include:
- Developing strong study habits in Years 10 and 11 to build a foundation for Year 12 success
- Accessing the available support systems to enhance learning
- Utilising teacher feedback to improve academic work significantly
- Understanding that the SACE has integrity and rigor—challenges are expected
- Recognising the importance of attendance and meeting learning requirements
- Ensuring work verification by teachers through active task completion
- Completing compulsory requirements in Year 11 to avoid needing to work back after exams
We look forward to working alongside you and your young person in achieving their SACE and planning their future pathways.
Senior School Parent Information Night Recap
Earlier this term, we held a Senior School Information Night for families. Below are key points from the session:
Introducing the Senior School Team
The Senior School team is based in the Senior Study Centre, a central location where students can access support, seek clarification and connect with staff.
We take a team around the young person approach, ensuring that every student has access to the guidance and resources they need to thrive in the senior school.
Understanding the SACE
The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) is an internationally recognised qualification that students work towards in their senior years.
Key Terminology:
- Stage 1 – Year 11 (Semester-long subjects worth 10 credits)
- Stage 2 – Year 12 (Full-year subjects worth 20 credits)
SACE Requirements:
- Students must earn 200 credits over Years 11 and 12
- 50 credits are from compulsory requirements, with the remaining 150 credits from elective subjects
Compulsory Subjects:
- Exploring Identities and Futures (Year 10)
- Mathematics (Year 11 – One Semester)
- English (Year 11 – Full Year)
- Research Project (Year 11)
Stage 2 – Year 12 Requirements:
- Students must achieve a C- or better in three 20-credit subjects.
SACE Verification of Student Work
Students must submit for assessment only work that is their own, produced without undue assistance from other people or sources.
Teachers are required to verify that the work is that of the student.
For a teacher’s verification to be given with confidence, the teacher should see evidence from students of the work during production. Attendance at lessons is crucial for this to happen.
SACE & Holiday Considerations
Please be mindful that students are not eligible for Special Provisions if they miss school for family holidays. This is especially important for Year 11 and 12 students.
Stage 2 Exam Timetable
The SACE Board has released the 2025 exam timetable. Please refer to the link for details: 2025 Stage 2 Exam Timetable
SATAC – Year 12 Tertiary Applications
For Year 12 students planning to pursue further study, SATAC will present an information session in Term 2, Week 10 (Friday).
This session will guide students through the application process and is highly valuable.
ATAR – University Entry
To be eligible for an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), students must:
- Achieve their SACE
- Complete four Stage 2 subjects (each worth 20 credits)
Pathways & Careers Support
Our Student Pathways and Careers Leader, Alana Probert, is available to support students with:
- University studies and pathways
- Vocational Education and Training (VET) – VET FAQs
- Work Experience and Structured Work Placement – Work Experience FAQs
- School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT)
Thrive Week 2025 – Save the Date!
The Senior School is excited to announce that Thrive Week will take place in Week 10 of Term 2, from Monday, 30 June to Friday, 4 July 2025.
Thrive Week provides Senior School students with an invaluable opportunity to explore their interests and career options. This initiative is designed to support young people in making informed decisions during the Term 3 subject selection process and to help prepare them for life beyond school.
