SALA Festival Exhibition 2023

News & Events 25/07/2023

‘A Feeling of Belonging.’  August 15 – 25, Concert Hall Foyer.

We are very proud to again host an exhibition of student work for the Brighton Secondary School community. The SALA Festival is a state-wide showcase and celebration of South Australia’s living visual artists.

The theme this year, A Feeling of Belonging, was initiated by Tiana K. a year 11 student in the SALA team.

The beautiful poster was designed and painted by Sian W. in Year 11.

Entries

Invitations are now open to students to submit work in the exhibition, with artists encouraged to interpret the theme in their own special way. Here is an extra clue to think about in preparing your entry-

‘Belonging can also mean the special connections you make from the things you like doing. When you really feel that you are doing the things that set you apart as an individual.’

Bring your art entry to the Art Office by the end of Week 3 with your registration form.

Students in each year level from year 7 to 12 are eligible to win a $50 encouragement award kindly sponsored by Eckersleys Art Supplies. In each year level there will also be highly commended art awards.

Younger siblings in the BSS community are also very welcome to enter artworks and each young artist (under 12 years of age) will receive a lucky dip art prize at our opening!

Entry forms are available by collection from the Arts Notice board, or from your art or design teacher.

All entries are exhibited, and students may create work in the art material of their choice. This also includes photography and digital art forms.

Exhibition Opening Event

Our exhibition opens at 4.30pm on Tuesday 15 August in the Concert Hall Foyer. Light refreshments will be available.

A second student opening will occur at lunchtime on Wednesday 16 August at 1pm.

The exhibition is open at lunchtime through weeks 4 and 5 and closes Friday 25 August.

Good luck to all our BSS artists!

Yasmin Paterson, Visual & Performing Arts Leader.
