Welcome to Term 4 at Brighton Secondary School
As we begin the final term of 2024, I am excited to welcome all students back and to set a positive tone for the weeks ahead.
To mark the start of Term 4, each year level will gather for welcome assemblies where we will share important updates, reset expectations, and encourage students to maintain their focus and effort as we work towards the end of the year.
Term 4 holds particular significance for our Year 12 students, who are now approaching the culmination of their secondary education. During Weeks 1 and 2, we will celebrate the Class of 2024 with a series of special events, including a final assembly, themed dress-up days, and the much-anticipated Year 12 Breakfast. These traditions offer a fitting farewell as their formal lessons come to an end. For some, this also marks the beginning of their exam period. We recognise and deeply appreciate the guidance and support provided by our Year 12 teachers, as well as the commitment of families who have been on this journey alongside their children. Towards the end of the term, we will gather for the Valedictory Ceremony, where our graduating students will be formally acknowledged and celebrated with their families and key staff. This event will showcase not only academic achievements but also the diverse talents and contributions of our students.
While we bid farewell to our Year 12s, we also prepare to warmly welcome our incoming Year 7 cohort for 2025. Following the Year 6 Afternoon Tea held in Week 10 of last term, we will meet individually with each new student for Learner Profile conversations in Week 3. We are also excited to offer transition days specifically for our Aboriginal learners in Week 6, followed by full transition days for all new students in Week 8. We anticipate that these students will bring new energy and enthusiasm to our community as they embark on their secondary school journey.
Term 4 is always rich with learning opportunities, both within and beyond the classroom. From outdoor education camps and drama productions to learning showcases, this term offers a vibrant tapestry of experiences. We are especially looking forward to celebrating student achievements at our whole school ASPIRE Assembly in Week 6, where we will acknowledge the breadth of talents and successes across the student body.
At the close of the term, selected students will represent Brighton Secondary School at the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup, competing on the Gold Coast. Some of our music students will embark on a regional tour to Wallaroo, and our Year 7-9 students will take part in a variety of end-of-year excursions and activities.
As always, our staff remain dedicated to providing excellent teaching and learning experiences throughout the term, while also laying the groundwork for the 2025 academic year. We look forward to a productive and memorable Term 4, filled with both hard work and celebration.
If you need any support over the coming weeks, please do not hesitate to reach out. We wish you and your family all the best for a fantastic term ahead.
Warm regards,
Kimberley McLean
Acting Principal
