News & Events 25/01/2023

Dear Families

Welcome to the 2023 school year as part of our Brighton Secondary School community.

I hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year and were able to spend quality time with loved ones.

We are looking forward to having all our students back at school next week.

Once again, we have a staggered start this year to enable us to focus on the successful transition of our Year 7s into the school and our Year 12 students into their final year. As previously communicated, our Year 7s and 12s will return on Monday 30 January and our other year levels on Tuesday 31 January.

This time last year we had half our students about to engage in online learning because of the conditions relating to COVID, so we are fortunate, at this stage, to have a more ‘normal’ beginning to the year.

During the first week of term we have designed programs appropriate for each year level to ensure students have the best start possible and are clear about expectations and support available to them.

To further support families, we have year-level based acquaintance evenings scheduled for early in the term (please see further information in this Update).

Our Senior School Study Centre is nearing completion and we are looking forward to having it available for our Year 11 and 12 students for their study periods, as well as providing a range of resources and staff to support the learning and wellbeing needs of our senior students.

Our two key school improvement goals will continue to be:

To stretch, challenge and engage all students in their learning.

To improve students’ connectedness and engagement in the classroom and school community.

These goals link directly to our School Purpose:

At Brighton Secondary School we foster successful learners, confident and creative individuals and informed citizens.

and are underpinned by our School Values:

We have an absolute focus on providing the best possible learning and wellbeing outcomes for all our students and will be focusing again this year on putting in place structures, processes and approaches to further support all the young people in our care.

We look forward to building further on our partnership with you during the 2023 school year.

Kind regards

Tony
