Middle School Update

News & Events 6/03/2024

I would like to warmly welcome all middle school families to the 2024 school year and a particularly special welcome to new families to our school community, including our new Year 7 students.

The start of the term has been a busy one with students settling back into the routine of school after the summer break.

Year 7

Year 7 students are developing strong relationships with their peers, home group and core teachers and have actively involved themselves in events such as Swimming Carnival, Challenge Cup and House Challenges so far this term.  These house activities are a great way to build connection and a sense of teamwork within their house.

Congratulations to Tantutiti for taking out Year 7 Challenge Cup!

Year 8

The Year 8 students have also had a productive start to the year which has seen them take the next step in their Middle School journey. This has seen them meet new Home Group and core teachers and spend more lessons in the main buildings of the school and experience new subjects. It was great to see our Year 8 students enjoy their Challenge Cup Day, despite being modified due to the heat.

Congratulations to 802 Tarnta for their victory on the day!

Year 9

Our Year 9 cohort has begun their year as the leaders of the Middle School, which has included the selection of the Middle School Leaders team for 2024.

Congratulations to the students listed below who will work as a team and with the Middle School teachers on providing student voice for Middle School students and opportunities to improve our school.

On Thursday 29 February, members of this leadership team were part of a panel who presented their priorities for Middle School students to Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, when she visited Brighton Secondary School.

The Middle School Leaders spoke of the importance of harmony and inclusion, reconciliation and encouraging students to make the most of the opportunities presented to them in the Middle School.

It’s wonderful to see Middle School students already strongly represented in the wide range of sports, clubs and activities we offer at Brighton Secondary School.

During Year Level Assemblies so far this term, Middle School students have been encouraged to participate in the wide range of sports, clubs and activities offered at Brighton Secondary School.

These clubs, sports and activities are a great way to keep active at break times and to make new connections in the school community.

An Expo of Clubs and Activities is planned in the Library for Tuesday 19 March and students are encouraged to attend.

Acquaintance & Parent Information Evenings

Thank you to all of the families who joined Middle School staff at our Year 7 Acquaintance Evening and Year 8 & 9 Parent Information Evenings in weeks 3 and 4 .

We hope that the information shared by our staff was valuable as the connection between Home Group teachers and families is important as our students move through the middle years of schooling.

Daymap

One of the best ways to stay connected, see feedback on tasks and assignments and check upcoming due dates is for parents to connect to DayMap, our learner management platform.

Information about connecting to DayMap is available here:

We look forward to a successful year ahead for our Middle School students.
