Governing Council

The Brighton Secondary School Governing Council plays a vital role in shaping the school’s vision and direction in partnership with the Principal. It offers guidance to school leaders to support effective governance and provides a platform for parental and community engagement, fostering the educational, cultural, and social diversity of our community.

Why join the Governing Council?

As a volunteer member, you will:

  • Participate in discussions about the school’s improvement plans, finances, canteen, and uniforms.
  • Influence decisions that directly affect students’ secondary school experience.
  • Contribute to key areas, including:
  • Co-developing and approving local policies
  • Endorsing the annual report
  • Reviewing, approving, and monitoring the site budget.

Eligibility for membership

Membership is open to:

  • Parents
  • Community members
  • Staff
  • Students

To join, you’ll need:

  • A valid Working with Children Check
  • Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse, and Neglect – Education and Care (RRHAN-EC) training
  • Department for Education online training for Governing Councils

(Note: Assistance can be provided to arrange these requirements.)

Commitment

Meetings are held twice per term, with attendance at some school events also required.

How to get involved

We encourage parents who are passionate about contributing to the school community to consider nominating for parent representative positions when they become available. This is a fantastic opportunity to represent the parent body and participate in decision-making processes.
