SACE

What is the SACE?

The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) is an internationally recognised secondary school qualification designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and personal capabilities necessary to successfully participate in society. The SACE provides students with the flexibility to choose subjects that align with their interests, skills, and aspirations, ensuring a personalised and meaningful educational experience.

At Brighton Secondary School, students in the senior years can achieve their SACE through a combination of traditional SACE subjects, Vocational Education and Training (VET), community learning, and studies at university or TAFE. This broad range of pathways allows each student to tailor their learning experience to support their future goals.

What does your SACE journey look like at Brighton Secondary School?

The SACE is structured into two stages:

  • Stage 1 – Typically undertaken in Year 11, this stage focuses on building foundational skills and knowledge while allowing students to explore their interests and future career pathways.
  • Stage 2 – Usually completed in Year 12, this stage involves in-depth study in chosen subjects, preparing students for further education, training, or employment.

Students need to study a range of subjects, including both compulsory and free-choice subjects, to meet the requirements of the qualification. These include:

  • Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF) – Year 10
  • Mathematics – One semester in Year 11
  • English – Two semesters in Year 11
  • Activating Identities and Futures (AIF) – Year 11

All compulsory components must be completed at a satisfactory level. Additionally, the SACE offers modified subjects at both Stage 1 and Stage 2 for eligible students.

At Brighton Secondary School, we support students throughout their SACE journey, providing guidance, resources, and opportunities to ensure they achieve success and are well-prepared for life beyond school.
