Year 10 Ski Trip

Year 10 students have the opportunity to participate in the school's annual ski trip to the Victorian snowfields in the third week of Term Three. Fifty-two students can be accommodated and they are accompanied by seven teachers. Students usually stay in the snow at the Snowbird Inn, where they can literally ski from the front door. The students are taught the fundamentals of skiing or snowboarding by professional ski instructors. Students are actively supervised on the slopes by the experienced staff participating.

This trip provides an opportunity for students to develop specific skills related to snow skiing/boarding and monitoring of a specific fitness program and interpersonal and leadership skills related to group activities. They develop an appreciation of extreme climatic conditions and factors affecting personal safety when undertaking outdoor activities in a hostile environment. They also gain an appreciation of the environmental impact of recreational activities on the environment. The Senior Secondary Assessment Board of South Australia has recognised our ski trip as a valuable student learning experience and will award one SACE unit to each participating student meeting the criteria for assessment.

The cost of the trip covers:

  • Coach travel from Adelaide to Mount Hotham return,
  • Multi-share accommodation for five nights,
  • Hot breakfasts for five mornings,
  • Six two course luncheons,
  • Five two course dinners,
  • Five days ski hire of good quality equipment (skis, boots and poles or snowboards and boots),
  • Unlimited use of all Mount Hotham lifts for five full days,
  • Daily lessons by qualified instructors for five days,
  • Entrance fee to the National Park,

The trip leaves late on Saturday night and arrive back early the following Saturday morning. The only extra expenditure is for meals on route, ski clothing, souvenirs and spending money.
