CANTEEN - FOOD FOR HEALTH

In 2008 this school, along with all SA schools, will need to implement and comply with the SA Government's Healthy Eating guidelines. Food and drink sold from the Canteen will be classified according to their nutritional value. The Canteen menu will be changed to reflect only healthy food (a lot of this has already occurred in 2007). In 2008 we will ensure that food and drink not essential for a healthy diet will not be sold at our canteen.

The following will be reviewed in 2008:

Drinks containing sugar - soft drinks, energy drinks, fruit drinks and drinks containing caffeine
Confectionery - all types of lollies and chocolate
Deep fried foods - all types
Snack foods - crisps, chips and biscuits
Ice Cream and ice confections - icecreams, icy poles and ice crushes
Cakes and slices - cakes, muffins, doughnuts and bars
Savoury pastries - pies, pasties and sausage rolls
