Welcome from the Principal
Brighton Secondary School aims to provide a quality secondary education for all students to enable them, with the support of both staff and parents, to reach their highest potential. The school has a strong tradition of academic excellence and offers a broad and challenging range of subjects to enable students to achieve future study and vocational success.
The extensive curriculum emphasises the importance of learning within the local and global communities and provides opportunities to develop qualities of self-understanding, mutual respect, adaptability to change and skills for life-long learning.
The Latin motto “Fac Omnia Bene”, which means “Do All Things Well”, carries a clear message to “do your best” and provides direction for school community vision and the continued pursuit of excellence.
Brighton Secondary School is one of Australia's most successful co-educational government high schools and has produced highly-accomplished scholars, musicians and athletes since being established in 1952. With 1250 students in Years 8-12, it serves a large and diverse community in Adelaide's south-western suburbs. It has provided some of the country's best youth orchestras, choirs and bands, outstanding academic results (including prize winners in the sciences and mathematics), and a broad range of sporting success, such as National Senior School Volleyball Champions in 2001-2002.
The school fervently believes that its students are at the centre of all its endeavours. The school community strongly supports school activities and raises tens of thousands of dollars each year to sponsor student activities in five separate support groups - Music, Volleyball, Rock Eisteddfod, Parents and Friends, and Friends of Brighton Secondary School (old scholars).
We support students through their educational programme by focusing on student wellbeing. Important elements of our programme include developing student resilience, structured Pastoral Care sessions, involvement in the Drug Strategy programme and staff training in Mind Matters.
The school also provides multiple pathways for students. These include Vocational Education and Training (VET) which supports students' transition to the world of work and further vocational training.
Brighton Secondary School has always provided an outstanding and creative learning environment in all areas. Its continued success in such a diverse range of activities shows that its students are able to achieve any goal, whether it be in academia, sport, music, debating or another co-curricular activity. Its exceptionally strong parental and community-based network supports the students in their achievements and also helps impart the kind of values that lead to their academic, social and personal development.
